Trondheim harbour is one of four ports in a intermunicipal cooperate the Trondheimfjord Intermunicipal Harbour (TIH). The other three ports are Orkanger, Stjørdal and Muruvik. The following municipalities will join the TIH during 2012/13; Frosta, Levanger, Verdal, Inderøy, Steinkjer, Verran and Leksvik.

Trondheim harbour has a significant freight transport through it's harbour by sea, train and lorries. The port of Trondheim is also a hub for passenger transport to Kristiansund, Hitra, Freya, Vanvikan and Brekstad with catamaran vessels. Hurtigruten (Norwegian Coastal Express) have daily arrivals with a northbound and a southbound boat. Arrivals of cruise ships is a significant element at the harbour, where the season 2013 have 51 cruise calls according TIH.

The name of the boat is "Spurven" (sparrow), looks more like a bullfinch to me.
